At the "Maison&Objet" design fair in January in Paris, the motto was "Take Care" - an invitation to think about our future and the planet. This is reflected both in the use of ecological materials and in the emphasis on the feel-good factor of furniture. We cannot continue consuming as before – we must become fairer, more ethical and more mindful. How does this show in the interior trends?
Bold colour contrasts reflect societal tensions: neutral and strong colours are wildly mixed - for example soft blue and green tones and strong red-yellow tones. And the cheerful creations of the 70s are back - with round chairs and inflatable furniture and accessories.
Feeling good in particularly comfortable seating furniture with round shapes in bouclé or corduroy – combined with soft throws – all in neutral tones such as beige, ecru and calming greys – and limewash on the walls – the desire for a cosy cave at home is in vogue.
More sustainable products and also upcycling products – e.g. chairs made from marine waste or table tops made from industrial plastic waste – are making their way into the design world. There are many ideas to make recycled materials more attractive, e.g. a nonwoven fabric made from fire-resistant paper remnants. Natural and organic materials are increasingly replacing synthetic materials, such as acacia, oak or ash, cotton and sheep's wool.
We now have the opportunity to consume less, but with better quality.
Would you also like to "upcycle" your home? We will gladly show you how!
